The mission of East Slope Outdoors is to provide high quality gear, local expertise, and friendly enthusiasm for the outdoors. We want you to leave our shop more knowledgeable and prepared, excited and happier than when you walked in.

About East Slope Outdoors:

Since 1986, East Slope Outdoors (originally called "East Slope Anglers and "Mad Wolf Ski & Sports")  has been providing locals and visitors great quality gear at affordable prices. We pride ourselves on being experienced, trustworthy, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, friendly and fun. Whether you are shopping for gear, hiring a guide, or simply looking for information about how to best explore Big Sky and Southwest Montana, we promise you a safe, memorable, and enjoyable experience.

About the owners, Dave & Katie Alvin:

Long time local "Super Dave" has been fishing since he was old enough to say "fish". Since 1989, he's lived in Big Sky - working in the service industry, guiding, outfitting, fishing for fun, and skiing in between. When he's not on the water, you'll find him on the slopes, trying out all the gear so he can help you get outfitted perfectly. He has worked in the recreation industry since 1986 and his goal is to make sure his clients and customers get the best experience, information, and gear at just the right price.

Dave's wife Katie came to Big Sky in 1993 to chase butterflies and birds for a research project, and stayed in what immediately became her home. She loves exploring outdoors, expanding her natural history knowledge and sharing experiences with people of all ages. She has been involved with outdoor education for over 25 years, and has a contagious enthusiasm for discovery. Her goal is to make sure every person that leaves the shop is more excited - and equipped - to explore this incredible place.

Dave and Katie spend their free time playing outdoors with their two kids, while juggling business ownership, caretaking an 80-acre property, and being owned by three dogs, a cat, and a rabbit.

About the staff and guides:

Around these parts, East Slope Outdoors is known for the friendly, fun, welcoming atmosphere created by our staff. When you walk in, you are greeted by Big Sky locals who live and play here. During shift breaks, our team hits the river or the slopes for "research". They love to share their knowledge, and are more concerned that you have an educational experience in our store than making the cash register ring. Of course we hope you'll support our shop and buy local, but we also hope you'll enjoy enjoy our low-key, down-to-earth point of view.

Drawn from the local fly fishing community, the guides of East Slope  Outdoors are recognized not only for their knowledge of the region's waters, but also for their passion for the sport. Our guides are  dedicated to teaching and demonstrating fishing techniques with patience, perseverance, and a healthy dose of good humor. Most  importantly, everyone at East Slope Outdoors is committed to making your  trip safe, enjoyable and memorable.
